For the large number of
members of Wigan casino soul club in the 1970's. As the old
saying goes on a picture paints a thousand memories. When you
look at the variety of faces contained on this page. Nearly
everybody who ever went there as some kind of reminder. Your
teenage years have gone but the memories will be there forever.
A great shame most of the media available to buy is so full crap
it does'nt make it worth buying. I'm not trying to say every
member there did the things that are mentioned by this website.
That is not the reason for this website at all but to portray
the allnighter the way. Members who went will
always remember it with the things they did included. As the
serious dance faction who went to Wigan casino every allnighter
52 weeks a year. On a Sunday a alldayer in the week soul nights.
There devotion was without a shadow of doubt 100%. At the time
if you had staged a event on Mars that was good and was the only
1 on at the time. A lot there would of tried to be at the next .
The music was a very important part 0f it
If you wanted to make a complete list of everything that
made Wigan casino so good. It's my opinion that input from 1
person could'nt possibly be enough to do it. Everybody as a
memory from the allnighter that is exclusive to them at the
time. A lot of other things made up the personal picture not
a single event that had happened. For a very large number of
the people there it was'nt a quick journey. I often left my
home on a Saturday afternoon to get there on time. Things
that had taken place on the way put you in the mood for the
whole night to come. The Wigan casino allnighters where on
the whole violence free. You get the odd fight that is to be
expected in a 1000+ crowd.
The street gang warfare I was meaning the whole crowd there.
Came from many different parts all over the UK. I'm not
talking about rational middle aged people. But head strong
teenagers full of emotion wound up like a coil ready to
explode. Even so everybody was friendly people from the west
midlands, north west, south, Scotland, and every part of the
UK. Greeted each other like some kind of long lost relation.
The worst fights I remember there was the fights with the
punk rockers. A slight difference in musical opinions that
was all some good fights was the outcome of it unfortunately
at the time I liked punk. Then 1 night the train got delayed I walked up from the
station straight into a gang of punk's. I thought a kicking
here the first came up and we discussed what we would like
to do to Wendy o'Williams. The lead singer of the
Plasmatic's a big punk band at the time. He seemed more
surprised I knew who she was when I mentioned the
bands I liked he was a friend for life. He had no real interest in fighting me even with the odds in his favour. I was a lot more use to him intact. We shared a good long conversation on a variety of female punk singers we would be pleased to give 1. At the end of the day,
We just talked about the things normal teenagers talk about.
On the whole most of the teenagers who went to the
allnighter where just normal. Exactly the same type that
lives in your street. With 1 exception that is, they enjoyed
staying out all night doing something they enjoyed. In the
eyes of normality you must be doing something wrong. Or you
would be drinking too much beer, buying fast food before you
spewed the lot up again. Telling your friends about the
latest girl you shagged. Mostly exaggerated lies after she
told you to piss off. But as Wigan casino was never known
for romance, you went for the atmosphere and records not to
fall in love.
